Artist statement

In my art practice, I take inspiration from handmade textile materials and investigate the unique tactile and textural qualities. I am fascinated by handmade textiles, mostly because of the soft tactile and unique texture. I feel calm and relaxed when I touch that. There is an invisible connection between textiles and us. From birth, we have a special connection to fabric clothing, bedding and soft toys. Textiles have been with us in every corner of our lives, always present. Beyond this physical relationship between the body and textiles, is an invisible connection that builds on memory and touch.

The textiles are referred to as a second skin, fitting into the body and giving an invisible warmth, familiarity and protection. Textiles can create a calm and relaxed feeling also with the process of creating textile artworks as a therapy to relieve stress and anxiety through those repeated sewing actions to get emotions, repair and liberation.
